I was invited by some colleagues to document the outdoor activities from an european education project. That’s the moment when I saw that in the village of Săcărîmb, near the city of Deva, Hunedoara county, the number of crosses is staggering; and the diversity of models and patterns, or of the belonging religions is huge.
The village has the first mining schoolf from Europe, and even the structure and geographical layout of the village is very interesting, unfolding on levels, as if the village had increased it’s size as the mining activity developed.
They have different types of cemeteries, based on religion, on different types of people, but also for different periods of time.
These parallel between mining, village layout and the huge number of crossess is what drew me to develop this long-term project.
